From Komodo to Lombok

21 January 2024

Wings Air Airline just started serving intercity flight routes from Labuan Bajo to Lombok with a frequency of flying once a day.
A trip to Komodo has plenty to offer and is a perfect choice in combination with at The Lombok Lodge.

The impressive Komodo National Park is located between Indonesia’s Flores and Sumbawa Island in the East Nusa Tenggara province and at a short 1 hour and 20 minutes flight from Lombok.

On Komodo Island, you are invited to step into the enchanting world of the Komodo dragon, the famous prehistoric lizard that is said to be “the last dinosaurs in the world”. If you’re looking for a unique, unforgettable experience, a trip to this stunning land is definitely in order. However, there’s a lot more to see and do in the Komodo Islands other than trying to stalk a Komodo Dragon for a selfie. When you’re planning a trip to this magical world, here are a few activities that you definitely can’t miss.

KOMODO NATIONAL PARK
In 1986, the park was declared a World Heritage Site and a Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The Komodo National Park encompasses a total of 29 volcanic islands (including the 3 major islands Rinca, Padar and Komodo) and is home to approximately 2,500 Komodo Dragons and other terrestrial fauna such as various species of reptiles, birds and mammals.

SCUBA DIVING
One of the absolute best things to do in the Komodo Islands is go scuba diving. If you are not a certified diver, don’t worry, the snorkeling near the Komodo Islands is pretty awesome as well. The marine environment in the Komodo National Park is one of the world’s richest in flora and fauna and is still relatively undiscovered.

HIKING TREKS
Komodo Island offers many nature-based highlights. If you’re an avid hiker, hiking trails on the island, such as Satalibo, Regata Hill, and the neighboring Padar Island hills, are simply spectacular.

PINK BEACH
Tired of the treks? The island’s pristine beaches with magnificent scenery and long stretches of coastline are all there waiting for you to sun bask in all its glory. The most famous beach, Pink Beach, comes with pink sands, definitely one for your bucket list

LABUAN BAJO
While most consider Labuan Bajo as a gateway to Komodo Island, there are actually plenty of things to experience here. If you’re a foodie, get a taste of authentic local food and head to Kampung Ujung. Sunset lovers might also want to visit Bukit Cinta, Bukit Amelia, and Bukit Silvia, which offer the best vantage points in town.
