Best Time to Visit Indonesia | A Luxury Guide with a Focus on Lombok (2026)

4 May 2026

As the owner of Lombok’s most exclusive Private Villa Resort, with a 15+ Year legacy in Luxury Hospitality at The Lombok Lodge Hospitality®, I’ve learned that the best time to visit Indonesia depends on your vision for a perfect escape.

Whether you’re drawn to the pristine white sand beaches of Kuta Beach or Tanjung Aan Beach, the vibrant Gili Islands, or the thrill of volcano trekking on Mount Rinjani, the time to visit Lombok shapes your experience from poolside relaxation to outdoor adventures. My daily monitoring of Lombok weather patterns while managing villa rentals reveals how each time of year enhances the island’s charm, from stunning beaches to vibrant coral reefs.

And a small confession, perhaps not entirely impartial: I will primarily speak about Lombok – simply because, after all these years, it remains my personal favorite destination in Indonesia.

LOMBOK WEATHER | A TROPICAL CLIMATE OVERVIEW

Lombok’s tropical climate averages 28°C year-round, with temperatures between 26-31°C, according to Indonesia’s meteorological agency, BMKG (2025). The island’s distinct seasons dry season (April-October) and wet season (November-March) offer unique villa experiences.

Below, I break down the best time to visit based on weather, crowds, and activities like outdoor activities, surf season, and cultural immersion in Sasak villages.

Dry Season (April-October) –  Peak Sunshine for Beach Lovers

The dry season from May to September is the peak dry season, delivering ideal weather with consistent 30°C temperatures and minimal rainfall (10-20 mm/month) (Climates to Travel, 2024). This is the best time to visit Lombok for beach lovers craving crystal-clear waters at Lombok’s idyllic Beaches.

Sunny weather and dry weather ensure perfect conditions for villa pool days, outdoor dining, and boat trips to the nearby Gili Islands – Gili T, Gili Air and Gili Meno – known for their vibrant coral reefs and calm seas. For surfers, surf season peaks in Central Lombok at surf spots like Desert Point, a true surfer’s paradise with long left-hand barrels up to 300 meters on SW swells during low tide and southeast winds.

North Lombok offers volcano trekking on Mount Rinjani, with clear skies ideal for breathtaking views of the crater lake best from June to August for stable conditions and fewer crowds. However, this peak tourist season brings higher villa rates and requires bookings 3-6 months in advance, especially for our Lombok Lodge villas overlooking incredible Gondang Beach.

Shoulder Seasons (April-May, October-November) – Best Value and Balance

The shoulder months of April-May and October-November offer a sweet spot for visiting Lombok. Good weather persists with warm temperatures and occasional light showers, balancing fewer tourists with excellent villa availability.

These shoulder seasons are ideal for outdoor activities like exploring Sasak culture through village tours in Rambitan or Sade, where you can witness traditional hand-weaving and pottery-making passed down through generations, or relaxing at beach bars along Tanjung Aan Beach. Villa rates are 20% lower than peak season, making it a great time to visit. Don’t forget sun protection for those sunny intervals!

Wet Season (November-March) – Lush Landscapes and Fewer Crowds

The wet season, or rainy season, from November to March (often listed as October to April in some guides) is my personal favorite for an intimate villa escape. Wet weather brings refreshing afternoon showers, creating lush villa gardens and vibrant green landscapes across Lombok Island.

With fewer crowds, you’ll enjoy exclusive experiences at stunning beaches like Belanak Beach or cultural sites showcasing Sasak culture, including the Wetu Telu traditions. Rainy season skies often clear for spectacular sunsets, perfect for villa sunset drinks and dining or a Gili getaway via boat trips from Northwest Lombok, even if unpredictable weather might occasionally affect schedules.

While unpredictable weather may limit water sports, this season is ideal for cultural immersion or relaxing in villas with lower rates (30% less than peak). Sun protection is still essential, as sunny intervals are common, and it’s a prime time to visit Lombok for authentic Indonesia experiences.
